Sighisoara ( Schässburg ) was founded in the second half of the XII century by German immigrants, Transylvanian Saxons. In the year 1280 it is mentioned for the first time as Castrum Sex. 1298 it is called Schespurch and/or Schaesbrich and in 1337 with the Hungarian name Seguzwar. In 1435 the Romanian name, borrowed from Hungarian, appears as Sighisoara in writing for the first time.
The town is located in the centre of Romania, in the district of Mures, on the river Tärnava Mare, at an altitude of 380m. Sighisoara ( Schässburg ) has 32.000 inhabitants. From Sighisoara to Tärgu Mures are 54Km and to Bucharest 279Km.
